NY Bred Yearling filly by Honest Mischief o/o Bustinattheseams by Bustin Stones
Stone Smuggler is the third Honest Mischief offspring we have purchased in the past year. The Final Furlong selection team has really been impressed with the Honest Mischief foals. Stone Smuggler is a very well-made filly. She is a late May 15th foal but her balance is striking. She is a perfectly balanced filly with one of the best shoulder angles we found at the New Bred Saratoga Fasig Tipton Sale. Looking back on my notes from the sale, we graded this filly with a great shoulder, great topline and exceptional hip. All the ingredients we want in a yearling prospect. Stone Smuggler has fluid motion, solid soundness impression and is very correct.
The bloodstock agent that purchased multiple stakes winning Espresso Shot as a weanling and sold her to us as a yearling also purchased Stone Smuggler as a weanling so the same good judges of horse flesh came together again for this yearling.
Stone Smuggler is out of the first crop of Honest Mischief, a deep pedigreed Juddmonte homebred who hails from Sequel Stallions, a nursery that knows how to pick productive New York stallions. This son of Into Mischief was highly touted by trainer Chad Brown and a three-year-old stake winner going 7 furlongs. He was a very fast sprinter earning a 2 Ragazon.
Stone Smuggler’s dam, Bustinattheseams, is well known to Final Furlong management. We have liked several foals out of this mare and have been under bidders on half siblings to Stone Smuggler over the years. So we know Bustinattheseams throws consistently good looking foals but we can also say Stone Smuggler is her best looking foal to date. Bustinattheseams was a $150k 2YO purchase who won first time out in May of her 2YO year at Belmont. She produces hard knocking consistent runners including Bustin the Rules (5 time winner of $109k), Fat N Bitter (5 time winner of $120k), Bustinmygroove (winner of $92k) and Limit Up (5 time winner of $83k).
We purchased Stone Smuggler with the intention that she will be well positioned as a NY sired NY bred and be eligible for the lucrative NY stallion series stakes program which now offers a $500k stake race for 2YO’s.
