“HOME FOR CHRISTMAS”
2 Year Old Filly by Shanghai Bobby out of Nihilist by Latent Heat
2 Year Old Filly by Shanghai Bobby out of Nihilist by Latent Heat
This Shanghai Bobby filly was our favorite horse in the Fasig Tipton New York Bred Sale at Saratoga. We were prepared to spend more money on her than any horse we have every purchased and we still got outbid when she hammered down for $230,000. Christophe Clement and Brandon Rice knew we were on the horse and assisted us in working a deal to acquire a controlling interest in the filly.
It is only once or twice a year when we have near perfect notes on a horse. This filly has excellent shoulder angle and depth of girth and is perfectly balanced. She has great top line and rear strength behind through her hip and gaskins. She just oozes strength all over. And this filly is perfectly correct through her knees, is clean legged with great bone and ideal pastern angles. However, the best asset this filly possesses is her motion. Every member of our selection team was blown away by her walk. She moves like a cat with great reach and fluidity. We just loved the filly and knew we had to dig deep to acquire her and we still could not get it done the day of the sale. The deal that we were able to secure was fate at its best in our book.
Shanghai Bobby was the talk of the summer at Saratoga as his son Shancelot blew away his competition in the Grade 2 Amsterdam by a pole and recorded the best speed figure for a 3YO sprinter in over a decade while running a track record breaking 6 furlong time. Shanghai Bobby is by Harlan’s Holiday who is a living legend through his son Into Mischief, who is arguably the best sire standing in the US at the moment. This filly’s dam, Nihilist, won a MSW on the turf and Allowance on dirt at Santa Anita before retiring with $103k in earnings. Nihilist’s first foal, City of the Dead, is a three time winner and her second foal, Not Above Me (by Into Mischief), was a $710k 2YO purchase this year at the May Sale. We believe that colt is trained by Chad Brown but was given time off after the sale.
We have had frequent conversations with our entire team of trainers, bloodstock agents and owners about stepping up our purchasing power for the right horses. This Shanghai Bobby certainly fits that criteria. One of Final Furlong Racing’s longest relationships is with Brandon Rice and he greatly urged us to step up and buy this filly as an extremely exciting racing prospect. Christophe Clement loved this filly as much as we did and was a big proponent of us leading the ownership group on this filly after our impressive first out win with Irish Danzing this past summer at Saratoga.
