FINAL FURLONG RACING STABLE OFFERS "HOPE'S ROAR"
NY BRED 2YO FILLY BY ROARING FEVER OUT OF WINNING ROYAL ADADEMY MARE
FULL SISTER TO 2YO DEBUT WINNER
We purchased Hope’s Roar as a yearling after her full
brother, Captain Toews, broke his maiden first time out as a two year-old at
Belmont last year. Hope’s Roar is a 2YO
NY Bred filly by Roaring Fever. Roaring
Fever was a stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed winner of $220k who
broke his maiden first time out as a 2YO at Saratoga. He remained sound as a 2YO contesting the Gr.
1 Hopeful, placed in the Gr. 2 Cowdin, and was 4th in the Gr. 3
Nashua. Roaring Fever was a two time
allowance winner at 3 in New York and a stakes winner at 4. Being by Storm Cat and a full brother to
Raging Fever (Gr. 1 winner of $1.5MM) and Stormin Fever (Gr. 3), Roaring Fever
received early support as a stallion in NY and has proven to throw productive
and sound NY Bred runners.
Hope’s Roar is out of the Royal Academy mare, Try Your Best, who broke her maiden over turf as a 4YO at Saratoga. Try Your Best’s first foal, Captain Toews, won at first asking at 2 and has gone on to earn $59k running in Allowance company. Second Dam, Splendid Star, is the dam of four winners and half sister to two sires including Thrill Show. Thrill Show was a Grade 1 winner in France before shipping to the US to contest the Breeder’s Cup Mile before winning the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby and Grade 2 Arcadia Handicap. Needless to say, Hope’s Roar’s pedigree has a lot or European and turf influences.
Hope’s Roar has been trained by Brandon Rice and Ali de Meric at their RiceHorse Farm in Ocala, FL since she was a yearling. Since arriving at the Ocala farm last November, Hope’s Roar has turned into a real brute of a filly. Brandon thought this filly had the most real talent of any other yearling we purchased last year. She always had the most natural athleticism and stamina of the fillies in our 2013 crop. Brandon has classified the filly’s stride as long and efficient, covering a lot of ground. Ali commented that Hope’s Roar has never needed protection and acts like an alpha male in a pack of horses. Last year we adopted a new strategy of running a few of our youngsters through the 2YO sales. The team down in Ocala advised us to hold on to Hope’s Roar due to her above average talent and race potential. After the OBS June sale, we decided to give Hope’s Roar four months off to grow into her lengthy frame.
The whole Final Furlong team is very happy with Hope’s development this year. Starting up front, Hope’s Roar has a lot of scope with a pretty head with big nostrils and smart eyes. This filly’s shoulder may be her greatest strength right now. Her should has a lot of angle and girth which has translated into a long stride and above average endurance for a young horse. We would grade Hope’s top line as slightly above average supported by a more average hip, most likely due to the turf influences in her family. As seen in the opening picture, Hope’s Roar is going through another growth spurt and still has some tucking up to do coming back from her summer break. She has remained clean legged and sound during her early conditioning.
Hope’s Roar returned to training at the RiceHorse facility the first of October and Brandon Rice has given her high marks so far. She has become very easy to train and has progressed forwardly. Brandon recently commented, “Hope’s Roar is training absolutely as good as we could ask…she has overflowing energy in her stride every day.” Brandon expects Hope’s Roar to be able to ship to Bruce Brown’s Belmont barn at the end of December or early January.
Bruce Brown is perennially a top 15 trainer on the NYRA circuit and has had a lot of success with Roaring Fever offspring. Bruce also maintains a string of horses at Saratoga which will benefit the partnership in the event Hope’s Roar does take to the turf. Bruce has had a lot of success training horses up at the Oklahoma and then shipping back to Belmont to race.
