Final Furlong Racing Stable Inspires Horse Racing World for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

New York thoroughbred racing partnership updates silks to raise awareness and support work of Susan G. Komen

Saratoga Springs, NY October 2, 2017 – With all of the events and activities surrounding Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s always exciting to see new initiatives that can raise awareness. Final Furlong Racing Stable, a New York-based horse racing partnership organization, announces the update of its racing silks for October to incorporate the widely-recognized pink color, signifying breast cancer awareness, and their support of Susan G. Komen. Final Furlong runs 7 horses currently at New York Racing Association (NYRA) tracks, allowing its modified colors to be seen by thousands of racegoers, including other stables, which Final Furlong hopes will join them in this effort.

A Personal Story Inspires Breast Cancer Initiative

Managing partner Vincent Roth discussed Final Furlong’s desire to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer, and how this issue personally touched the Final Furlong family: "We at Final Furlong really feel like we are one big family - we have gotten very close throughout the years with all of our partners and oftentimes our partners with one another as well. About a year ago when we learned that one of our partners’ wives was diagnosed, we wanted to do something to really make a difference. Immediately we had a great graphic designer work on some unique shirts that showed we supported the cause, but this year we really wanted to take it one step further. And it is our hope next year we will see other stables follow in our footsteps and eventually maybe even NYRA and other tracks through the country can use all pink saddlecloths for the month or have a designated day - where there is a percentage of the handle donated to fight this battle. We plan on having a few events next summer as well to keep the momentum going!”

Extending Awareness Throughout the Year

Final Furlong’s breast cancer awareness initiative begins but doesn’t end this October. The goal will be to have the unique pink silks emblazoned with the blue ‘FF’ signed by NYRA jockeys, then auctioned off, with proceeds to Susan G. Komen. In this way Final Furlong plans to extend the awareness through the year.
Many people have had their lives touched by a family member or friends who have suffered from breast cancer, and the racing world has always been known to be supportive of each other during good and tough times.
